CARDS
Since 1991 the European Union has always committed itself in the stabilisation process in the Western Balkans. In 2000 aid to the region was streamlined through a new programme called CARDS (Community Assistance for Reconstruction, Development and Stabilisation) adopted with the Council Regulation (EC) No 2666/2000 of 5 December 2000.
The programmes wider objective is to support the participation of the countries of the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) in the Stabilisation and Association Process (SAP) .
Check the site of the European Commission for more information on the CARDS programme .
